Disneyland!!

Amen to the happiest place on earth. Ben has been so so so excited to go. He loved seeing Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Minnie, and Cluto (Pluto) right when we walked into the park. All he wanted to see was Mickey. Wish granted. Shortly after we entered the park we realized we had to go back and get strollers. So while Grandma and Grandpa went back to get strollers, we bought Ben his first set of ears. I thought they would be a fun way to remember his first trip to Disneyland. What I didn't anticipate was that Ben would want to wear them all day both days we were there. Of course you have to wear ears at Disneyland!
My Grandpa and Grandma Richens came with us on the trip. Somehow, my grandpa has never ever been to Disneyland! Crazy! At first he wasn't sure about the whole thing. But by the end he was thoroughly impressed and I think he wants to come back! My grandparents both rode Space Mountain and Indiana Jones! My grandpa loved Space Mountain. He was yelling just as loud as the teenagers! Grandma wasn't feeling so great after Space Mountain, but she rallied the next day for Indiana Jones! What cool great grandparents Ben has!
Ben sat up on Grandpa's shoulders for Mickey's big song and dance with the band in front of the castle. He liked all the characters from a distance, but wasn't too sure about them up close. The first time he saw the castle was the moment I think he realized that he really was at Disneyland. He was so excited to "go in."

As always Cole smiled through everything, even after clawing his face to pieces and spitting up all over his shirt. We discovered that Cole adores pickles. Unreal. Scott gave him one at lunch thinking Cole would flip but he sucked/ate the whole stinkin thing! Maybe that explains why I suddenly liked pickles when I was pregnant with him.
Ben went on his first roller coaster in Toon Town. Ben, Grandpa Richens and Scott waited in line for 45 min for a 20 second ride. Ouch. At least Ben thought it was the coolest thing ever. I thought he would freak out and be scared! He loved it. Go figure.
Disneyland was crazytown the first day we were there because it was the first sunny day after a long stretch of rainy miserable days. I have never ever seen Disneyland so crammed with people. Literally, you couldn't even move, and the lines were insane. Day two was much calmer.
I wasn't kidding when I say he didn't take the mouse ears off the entire time.
This was one of my very favorite Disneyland moments. Ben eating Mickey Mouse ice cream in his Mickey ears. How adorable!
The funniest part was that everyone who was in line with us for Peter Pan was cracking up watching him eat his ice cream. Everyone kept saying, "He makes that look like the best ice cream in the world! I have to go get one after this ride!" He was eating it so slowing and clearly enjoying every second. Sadly for me he wasn't up for sharing.

Andrew was kind enough to wait in line to see the real Buzz Lightyear while we rode on Autotopia. What did Ben do when he came face to face with his idol?
Freak out of course. It was hilarious. He pulled his ears over his eyes and kept screaming until we got in line for the Buzz Lightyear ride for the third time. He loved shooting the "awee-ins" (aliens).

Classic Ben face when I am trying to take a picture. Can you tell he was a bit attached to Chic while we were there? Can't blame him really. She is pretty awesome.

 Hooray for Disneyland.

It was so hard to go home. We had so much fun. At least we got to ride home in an airplane. Ben adores airplane trips. He loves everything about them: taking off, the drinks and snacks, the window, the landing. Sometimes it is hard to get him off. We have to reassure him we will ride another one someday.

Potato Bug Hunt

We went to California!! Cloudy, cold, rainy California, but Chic (formally Chicken, but known to the rest of the world as Kiersten) was there so that made it wonderful. Since it was raining there were lots of potato bugs out and about. Ben loves potato bugs.
He thought he was doing a great service by ensuring the dead potato bugs a swift passage into the hereafter with an extra big squish. Sorry bugs.
Uncle Andrew wins the award for best potato bug hunter. He found a ton for Ben to hold and more dead ones to squish.

Ben liked the ones crawling on the walls. He thought they were so tricky.
He couldn't quite figure out how to convince the bugs to crawl onto his hand. (I think the news of the squishing had spread.)
Luckily, Uncle Andrew was there to show him how to hold his hand still so the bug could jump on.
Then Ben got really mad at me for taking pictures. Surprise. Surprise. 80% of my pictures of him are like this. . . so sweet.

Chic came just in time to save him from his mommy's camera. Or so he thought.

Joke is on you kid.

3 years

I feel like a broken record, but how is this possible that I have a three year old boy!! What happened?
He is wild as all get out, but I love him so. He keeps me on my toes and constantly in check. He says the funniest things, but my favorite is, "I towee (totally) love you mom." My heart will shatter into a million pieces the day he stops talking like a toddler and looses all his funny sayings.
He is all boy. He loves digging in the dirt and pretty much anything with wheels. Digging (construction) trucks are still a favorite. We still have to hunt them down when we go on walks. Lightning Mcqueen is still the coolest. However, Ben says that Buzz Lightyear is, "The coolest toy ever."
Bed time is still a work in progress and probably always will be with Ben. Right now he goes to bed anytime between 9:00pm and 11:30 pm and it is almost always a battle. He usually sneaks his way into mommy and daddy's bed at some point. Sometimes he will go back in his room, other times he keeps coming back and I give up.
He is a pretty picky eater. His current favorites: oatmeal, corn, popsicles, donuts, and chips. Very well rounded and healthy. Sometimes food is food.
Ben is my jokester. Lately one of his favorite sayings is, "HA HA! Just kidnin (kidding)!" He does this with a really loud fake laugh. Hilarious.
He is on his way to becoming a super athlete. He loves to play soccer and baseball the most. He likes to watch football and basketball with dad.  He is crazy about wrestling. Which is great when it is with daddy or Uncle Jason, not so much with Cole.
He is the best big brother ever. He adores his younger brother and is always looking out for him. Even when I leave him at my mom's house and he is terrified he will go up to Cole and say, "It's okay Cole-y. Mommy and Daddy will come back for us. I here." And then he will sing him twinkle twinkle little star to calm him down.
He loves to dress up and be Buzz Lightyear. He is really into the whole super hero thing right now. Sometimes he gets a little jealous when Cole wakes up from a nap and needs mommy. But when I tell him that Cole needs us to rescue him, he runs up the stairs yelling, "I coming to rescue you Cole-y!"
Although aspects of Ben are hard at times he is the joy of my life. Everyday is an adventure with this wild boy. I love him dearly. We have had so many adventures and firsts together. I can't wait to see what adventures are ahead.

6 months

Already? Time has flown by with Cole. It felt like it took a lifetime for Ben to get to 6 months. With Cole it happened in .2 seconds. This boy is such an angel. He sleeps through the night, takes long naps, and is a constant ray of sunshine. Seriously, he is always smiling or giggling about something.
He melts me. He is so cuddly and sweet. He is so so into his toes. Trying to change his diaper is such a challenge because as soon as the pants come off his legs fly up and he gets his toes in a death grip or he shoves them in his mouth.
He has started solids and he is a huge fan. He loves rice cereal. He has already eaten 10 more than Ben ever did. He will test out anything and he usually will go back for seconds. He is Mr. Grabby. Anything remotely close to within his reach runs the risk of being ripped out of your hands and then immediately shoved into his mouth to be covered in drool.
We love you lil' C!

Dinosaur Museum!

Go figure Ben's favorite part of the museum would be the itty bitty waterfall. Seriously, we had to sit and watch it for twenty minutes. He kept trying to jump the railing to go play in it.
Look I exist!! Hooray! Cole loved getting his toes in the sand. Poor kid has spent most of his life indoors avoiding a freezing Utah winter!
