Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope your week is going well so far!

In today's email:

  • Split stitch for beginners
  • F*#k the Dishes member creation
  • Racy embroidered hairstyles by Matt's Nana
  • An intriguing podcast for true crime lovers
  • In my world: new live workshop prototype

On the Blog... Split Stitch

Split Stitch is a great stitch for doing lovely straight or curved lines or outlines.

It is one of my top picks for outlines and stitching words and can also be used as a cool filler stitch, which builds up quite a textured overall effect. It's also very forgiving which makes it great for beginners!

If you'd like to learn this stitch, head on over to my blog article here for a simple tutorial.

What have our makers been up to?

Lisa shared over in our members FB group this stunning version of our "F*#k the Dishes" pattern.

She said: "Completed this piece, been a wee while. Now to stitch it in the other colour way".

Lisa is one of our founding members, and I feel so lucky to have watched her progress from a beginner to creating amazing pieces like this, over the past 2 years!

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

It just so happens that my husband Matt's late Nana Jo loved embroidering hairstyles too!

I discovered this cushion she stitched years ago, that lives at Matt's parents place. It makes me laugh so much - gosh that line up of hairstyles must have been quite racy back in the day!  So I just had to share it with you guys. And I thought it was so fitting, with the new style of embroidery pattern I will be releasing soon (which is also all about hair embroidery, but quite a different style hehe). But let's take a moment for this - how crazy are the hairstyles?!

Something you might find interesting

I've been so hooked on this podcast recently called 'The Lady Vanishes". It delves into the mysterious story of Australian teacher and mother Marion Barter, who leaves overseas on an adventure but is never seen again. Her daughter Sally has been searching for her for 22 years, and we follow along her quest of discovering why her mother disappeared. Its such an intriguing (and sad) story and so easy to listen to while I stitch away!

I am currently up to episode 21 of 38 (yes there are a LOT of episodes) so would love to know your thoughts if you are also listening - or if you want to check it out here is the link to the podcast.

If you have any other similar podcast recommendations, hit reply I would love to hear them! Always love a good murder mystery...

Shop Spotlight..."F*#k the Dishes"

This is a great pattern to put the Split Stitch technique to work. A bit of a fun one if you don't love doing the dishes! (Let's be honest, who does?!)

This would look great displayed in your home (in the kitchen would be fitting!) or as a fun gift to that someone special who would benefit from some me time (and a bit of a giggle).

You can either grab the pattern kit (which comes a printed copy of the pattern, fabric, display hoop and thread bundle), or the digital pattern (if you are sorted for supplies).

In my world...

We had an awesome Matariki weekend, with lots of play dates, birthday parties to attend, and family time. This week is hectic- I'm sure many of you can relate to how a long weekend has the flip-side of a busy shorter week at work. Such is life!

Creatively, I've nearly conquered my mammoth embroidered hairstyles project, which has turned into a course + pattern combo. I'm super proud and know it's going to help you so much in this area of embroidery. Stay tuned for its launch later this week! In the meantime, I've been working on a prototype pattern for my next live workshop. It needs to be simple but amazing (haha no pressure right?). What do you think of this first stitch-up here? I feel like it might need some bees. Hit reply to let me know!
