Learn Satin Stitch From what I have noticed from teaching embroidery, Satin Stitch is probably the most challenging of the beginner techniques. But I can assure you that with practice, it becomes a lot more enjoyable (phew)! It is quite a simple stitch really, as it is a series of Straight Stitches which you lay next to each other back and forth to create a satin effect (hence the name!). But it definitely takes a certain skill to lay those stitches flush with each other.  I have sooo many helpful tips for Satin Stitch, including a step by step guide in my blog article you can check out here.  GO TO BLOG What have our Makers been up to? How incredible is this embroidery piece by our member Lindsey? It's sooo amazing seeing the creative ideas our members come up with! She said: "Finally finished my version of the Gardening Bee pattern for my son! I found a simple free coloring page of a truck and layered it with the flowers from the wheelbarrow. Then changed the colors to match his bedspread. I changed up the truck a couple times to get the look I wanted, but I LOVED fishbone stitch!" What's inspiring me on the creative front... Amy shared with me this instagram reel by Cecilia Bethular she came across, which shows you how to make a cute DIY Christmas tree garland with yarn. It looked like such a fun and simple Christmas project, I had to share it! I nearly drooled when I saw this Caprese Wreath, shared by @lizthedietician on my instagram feed. This would be sooo yummy as a side or starter on the Christmas menu this year, and it looks amazing too! Check it out below and let me know if you give it a go.  Shop Highlight: Scandi Flower Pots If you are wanting to improve on your Satin Stitch technique next, then this is the pattern for you.  I know how daunting Satin Stitch can be, but with lots of practise, it will get easier, and you will hopefully learn to love it! This pattern is a great opportunity to practise this technique, it predominantly focuses on Satin Stitch, but also features some other foundation techniques such as French Knots, Woven Rose and Fishbone Stitch.  This pattern is recommended for Confident Makers +.  We have a pattern kit, which includes a printed copy of the pattern guide, a piece of cotton fabric, a wooden display hoop and all of the thread colours you need. The festivities caught up with us, and we had a busy weekend both hosting and attending all sorts of Christmas gatherings. I loved every minute, and just think it's so awesome to be super social after the weird few years we've had!   We've nearly wrapped up our 2022 year at Clever Poppy HQ. I'm so happy to have finalised our next couple of patterns for Jan and Feb (you are going to LOVE them!). And there is only a day or so left before we head off on a family holiday over the Christmas break. As mentioned earlier in the newsletter, the shop will remain open for placing orders online while we're away, but shipping will resume on the 4th Jan. We are so appreciative for all of your lovely purchases over the last year, and we have such exciting things in store for the shop in the new year. More on that later...   I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas! I hope that you are able to spend the time with people you love, doing what makes you happy. For us, that will be relaxing, drinking some bubbles, playing some backyard cricket and eating a summery meal.
