3 tips for stitching letters

Stitching letters may seem daunting for people who are newer to embroidery. But here are some of my top tips to make stitching letters easy for everyone, including beginners. It's so special to be able to stitch names, initials, and quotes onto your work!

What have our makers been up to?

Oh my gosh, how beautiful is our member Amanda's version of Flora the Cat? Her woven roses are gorgeous! 🌸

She says, "I love how my Flora the Cat turned out! I used the kit for this one. It will go into my daughter's Easter basket (though she has been totally sneaking peeks of it). This one was a bit more challenging than Bee Happy since the stitches are all so close together, but the tutorials were so helpful.

I am planning to work on the stitch sampler next and make Bunny Blooms for my son's basket. And then I have to finish their socks for their baskets, haha."

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

Hands up who loves this adorable Tiny Kitchen pattern by talented artist Celeste of @lemon_made_shop! 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ I love how she's recreated the tiny details and made such a whimsical scene. Celeste Johnston is a hand embroidery artist and mama from the Midwest, USA. This talented lady loves creating colourful and cute creations including perfect poppies, patchwork quilts, and animals with French knot and chain stitch jackets. Scroll her Insta for more adorable creations and pattern inspo.

DIY painted Easter eggs

How cute are these painted eggs by @liddierowl? They are just perfect for Easter decorating! This talented mama has used acrylic paint on ceramic eggs. She says it was a bit of a challenge painting on round objects so keep your designs simple. Ps. She also has some super cute critters made from toilet rolls on her page, so check out her Insta for more inspo.

In our world...

The last week has flown by with our boating adventure! We've been exploring Stewart Island, which is right at the bottom of New Zealand. It's super cold compared to Auckland where we live, so almost all of our activities are above water (rather than in it!). We visited an island teeming with native birds, and the kids discovered how to scrape the soil so that a little robin would hop over and investigate. They were entranced! We went Kiwi spotting, and couldn't believe it when this rare bird came up and pecked at Piper's shoe! Another highlight was partaking in the Stewart Island quiz night at the local pub… I think coming 4th was a respectable result.

On the Clever Poppy front, things are also flying along! Our new format beginner kits are zooming all over the world. And I've really loved seeing lots of our members stitching up The Glasshouse over the last couple of weeks.

I better go because we're about to jump on a team call with our Clever Poppy crew. We're dialling in from all over the world – technology is sooooo cool!
