Long and Short Stitch is often used to fill in larger shapes with a nice and even texture. This is great in place of Satin Stitch, because sometimes Satin Stitches can become a bit wobbly if the stitches are too long. This technique is often called 'Thread Painting' and can be used to create texture for a realistic effect in embroidery patterns as well as a shading and colour gradient effect.
