Hey, it's Julie here,

Let's kick off June with a roundup of some super inspiring and helpful highlights from my creative world here at Clever Poppy!

On the Blog...

If you've been looking for a new challenge in your embroidery journey, how about trying a Buttonhole Wheel?

This technique can be used for flowers, wheels, abstract shapes and more. I just love the textured, round detail it adds to your patterns.

You can head to my blog article on this exact topic, and learn how to make one with my step-by-step tutorial. You'll also find a free stitch sampler that you can print out and practice this technique on. Try different colours, shapes and strands of floss - it's fun to experiment!

What have our makers been up to?

How stunning is this version of my Blooming Lovely pattern by our member Kellie? She said "First time doing woven roses for me and they were so much fun! First time lettering as well and it was a little less fun 😬".

I can totally get that, lettering is definitely a challenge! We are all about 'progress over perfection'...but honestly this looks pretty darn perfect to me!

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I can never go past the amazing craftsmanship by Arounna Khounnoraj, of Bookhou. She is a total punch needle guru, and her book was one of the first resources I dived into when I started my punch needle journey. She shares so many helpful tutorials on her insta, covering topics like visible mending, embroidery techniques and fabric crafting. Here's the link if you'd like to dive into her world too.

Something you might find helpful

I found this podcast episode really enlightening! It's my friend Sophie (from Nourish and Nurture), chatting all about post-natal depletion. Yup, my youngest Piper is five, but gosh I still found so much here that was relevant and made me pause for thought. You can tell this topic really lights Sophie up, and she shares so many gems I'm sure many of you will find helpful.

It's featured on the Move it Mama podcast - you might have heard of them? It's a membership run by the down to earth and lively Leece, who helps women get back their 'sparkle' with short workouts you can do from home. This is how I got back into exercise when Piper was little - thank goodess I found it when I did!

Anyway, you can listen to the podcast here - I'd love to hear what you think.

Shop Spotlight...the Gardening Bee

I am blown away by how loved my pattern The Gardening Bee has become! I see so many examples of it being made, by our members and customers alike.

So many make it as gifts for mums or nanas in their lives. But I also see so many comments that the maker wants to keep it for herself, which I love too!  Here's some examples made by our members below:

You can grab the pattern kit from our online store (which has a printed copy of the pattern guide, plus the threads and fabric). Or if you've already got the supplies sorted, then you can grab the digital pattern

In my world...

Things have been a bit quiet on the home front lately, as the cool weather sets in - with the bugs that come with it! So I've taken the opportunity of resting to do heaps of stitching. And finish off what turned out to be a big pile of WIP's!

I've been eagerly watching each weekly instalment of 'The Staircase' on Neon. Colin Firth and Toni Collette are gripping and it's so interesting seeing the various scenarios play out! I also really enjoyed 'Little Fires Everywhere' with Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington (on Amazon Prime video) - brilliant acting and it's very thought provoking.

We are heading away on the water for the upcoming long weekend, so that will be a welcome change. Bring on some fresh air, lots of fresh fish (fingers crossed) and maybe a refreshing swim or two! Well maybe I'll cheer on Matt on that front...

Oh and we're into our second month of Monday's Matter (an 8 week healthy eating programme with Mikki Williden). We are SO enjoying it, and starting to see some awesome results. Wish me luck over the long weekend haha.

Ok that's all for now, I hope you found something to inspire your day!

Julie xx.
P.S. I have been sharing my process of learning to embroidery hairstyles on the 'gram, and people are loving it! So I thought you might like to check it out before you go too...
