On the Blog... A simple guide to Back Stitch

The Back Stitch is one of the simplest and most-used modern embroidery stitches you are going to want to have under your belt! If you are a beginner, this is one of the first stitch techniques you would learn in our Maker's Academy membership.

You will see this technique in a lot of my patterns, it is a great stitch for creating a solid line for outlines, letters, and stalks of flowers. This is very similar to the running stitch, except you are going back to fill in the gaps you have left.

If you would like an easy guide for this technique, you can find it here in this blog article. Happy stitching!

What have our makers been up to?

Sacha shared in our member's group a hat she embroidered with some floral designs from our patterns. What a great way to transform something so simple into something so beautiful and unique!

She said: "I had a go at embroidering a $5 Kmart hat. It turned out quite cute!"

I totally agree, Sacha!

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

How cool are these embroidered pet portraits by Michelle from Stitching Sabbatical? I am just amazed at how realistic and detailed they are - you would think they were real life photos! If you'd like to check out more of her work, you can check out her instagram page here.

Something helpful...A beautiful poem for Mums

The other week I came across a beautiful poem by writer Jess Urlichs, which resonated with me so much as of late, and I thought all the mums out there could probably relate to as well over winter! It definitely hit me in the feels and might be helpful to make you feel like you are not alone. You can check it out here

Shop Spotlight... Personalised Baubles

Our new 'Personalised Baubles' pattern has now dropped!

This pattern is the perfect way to get organised with handmade gifts in the lead up to Christmas! It can be hung on the Christmas tree as little 'baubles' (hence the name) or displayed in your home. The great thing about this pattern is that it can also be used all year round, with lots of ways to change it up and personalise it to suit the giftee.

This is also the perfect pattern to practice your Back Stitch technique.

We have a pattern kit available from our store - which has the printed pattern guide, pieces of fabric, mini display hoops and threads (each kit has enough to make 3x baubles).

In my world...

We had a wonderful long weekend away at the mountain, celebrating a mate's 40th birthday. It was definitively a long trek to get there and back (road trips with kids sure aren't the same as in the old pre-kids days!), but it was totally worth it for all the fun we had! The kids both had their first day learning to ski, and I was pretty blown away with how well they did! I spent my time chasing them up and down the learner slope yelling 'pizza shape!', 'watch out!' and 'you're doing so great!'. I felt like I got a workout too haha, and it was so cool seeing the kids learn something new. Then it was time to relax in the cafΓ© with a G&T while Matt burned around the upper slopes (he also described it as 'tumbling down' the slopes at times).

I have tried snowboarding a handful of times…and let's just say it doesn't seem to come naturally to me. So I had written it off and felt content to help the kids learn. But after this weekend, I'm wondering if I try skiing instead…

Anyway it's back to the hustle and bustle at Clever Poppy HQ this week, and we are super busy getting ready to launch registrations for the new Bee Happy workshop! Plus I'm working on the new festive Stick & Stitch pattern for next month. Check out the sneak peek below.
