On the Blog... Learn the Whipped Back Stitch technique

This is a super fun technique, and is great way to create a nice smooth outline or border. It's basically a case of wrapping back stitch with a continuous spiral of floss, which creates height and a smooth line. You can use this technique with one or two colours of floss. If you use two strands then this creates a really fun candy cane style effect!

This is a more advanced stitch for those that have already learned how to do back stitch, so I would recommend it for later in your embroidery journey once you are confident with the basics.

This stitch features in our pattern 'The Florist', so if you have been planning on making this as your next project, you may find this blog article helpful for an easy guide on learning this stitch.

What have our makers been up to?

Alicia shared in our members group her beautiful version of our pattern 'The Florist'.

She said: "I had so much fun working on The Florist! This might be my favorite pattern so far in my embroidery journey. The three dimensional aspects gave a new challenge while being so satisfying to create".

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

Embroidery is such a fun and relaxing craft not just for adults, but it can be so enjoyable for kids too.

If your kids are showing a keen interest on learning how to stitch (and you are wanting to share your hobby with them!), Celeste from Lemon Made Shop has a very helpful three part series with some great advice and suggestions on how to go about introducing embroidery to kids. You can check it out over on her instagram page here.

Whenever Celeste's creations pop up on my feed, I swoon over the colours and designs, so I'm sure you'll love discovering her too!

Needle Minders are back!

Our ever popular Magnetic Needle Minders have been fully restocked and are now available over in our shop. We have 4 cute designs to choose from! Which one will you add to your craft stash....?

Shop Spotlight...The Florist

I have been seeing so many beautiful versions of this pattern made by our members lately, I just love seeing how much people are enjoying challenging themselves with the different techniques featured in this pattern.

I would recommend this pattern for Super Confident Makers.

We have a pattern kit available in our shop, which includes a piece of linen (Cloud Blue or Blush Pink), thread bundle (Pink or Blue), display hoop and printed pattern guide.

I hope you enjoy making her just as much as I have!

In my world...

We have had such a busy week here at Clever Poppy, welcoming people to our new workshop group and shipping out Workshop Bundles. It's a wonderful vibe, and we can already feel the excitement building for the first live session. There have also been so many inspiring posts in our member group, I can barely keep up!

On the home front, our entire weekend was spent doing a spring 'clear-out' at home. We have a reasonably small 3 bedroom home, so the cupboards fill up pretty fast. I went through all of our storage and took out anything that we hadn't used in a while, and to be honest I was pretty ruthless about it! Then I gifted heaps to people in our neighbourhood group plus the local op shops – gosh that was a good feeling! The rest was sold, or if it couldn't be repurposed, off to the skip bin it went. Luckily we could find new homes for most of it. And you know what? It was really not my ideal way to spend the weekend (I think I gritted my teeth through most of it) but it feels so good to have it done. And now our house feels so much more organised and spacious.

Have a wonderful week!

Julie xx.
