On the Blog... Learn the Seed Stitch

This cute stitch technique is a great filler option for filling in an area of your embroidery design. It creates what looks like a 'sprinkle' effect and is a relatively quick and simple way to fill in shapes.

We use this technique in a few of our patterns, including our 'Little Bunting' design (featured below), and 'The Florist'. If you'd like to learn this fun technique, you can check out our blog article here which has an easy to follow, step-by-step guide. Happy stitching!

What have our Makers been up to?

We love that our lovely member Aubrey has still continued with her Christmas stitching into the new year! Check out this gorgeous version of our 'Winter Wonderland' she shared.

She said: "Finished this on Tuesday, I am determined to finish all my Christmas patterns before starting spring ones. But I'm close, making good progress on Zooming Home for Christmas!".

Go Aubrey! How good does it feel to finish a detailed pattern like this?!

Guest Pattern for February...

We are super excited to reveal that next month's pattern is going to be in collaboration with a guest artist, and it's Yulia Anderson of @matryoshkadollshop! She is one of my favourite embroidery artists in the whole world, and I absolutely love her style. So I knew that adding one of her patterns would be an incredible addition to our library.

Her style is all about beautiful, soft colours and florals, and she designs amazing bouquets (hint hint). We will share a sneak peek of the pattern in next week's newsletter...but trust me, it is oh so beautiful! And it will be a perfect stitch up as a gift for a loved one in your life, especially with Mother's Day coming up.

If you'd like to see some of her stunning work for yourself, you can go to her Insta page here.

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I am just loving these beautiful embroidered floral maps by Rebekah of @stressawaystitching! Aren't they just incredible? The texture and intricate detail of the florals in these pieces must have taken hours... and I love how she has incorporated her love for travel into her art. If you want to check out more of her work, head on over to her Instagram profile here.

A podcast to check out...

Amy shared with me this podcast called 'The Imperfects' she has just started listening to recently. It was created by Australian teacher and author Hugh van Cyuylenburg, who focuses on helping people with their mental health with 'The Resilience Project' (which you can check out more about here).

It discusses just how perfectly imperfect we all are, with chats from a variety of successful comedians, musicians and sports stars - all opening up and sharing their personal struggles. Amy thought this would be really relatable for a lot of people out there, so it might be helpful to listen to on your daily commute. Feel free to hit reply and let us know what you think!

Shop Highlight... Little Bunting

This is a lovely, vibrant pattern that would look lovely in any child's bedroom or nursery. The mustard coloured fabric really makes the stitching 'pop'!

This cute design is great for Confident Makers +, and is the perfect opportunity to practise your Seed Stitch.

We have a pattern kit for this in our shop, which includes the printed pattern guide, square piece of Kona cotton, all of the DMC thread colours to make this pattern and a beautiful beech wooden display hoop for your finished piece.

In my world...

We're all hands back on deck at Clever Poppy this week! Well as much as can be, with kids still on school holidays. Matt and I usually do turn about each day, which means the kids get some special time with each of us. Plus we can crank through some work.

I've gotta say, I feel so blessed to have a job that I am super excited to get back to! I've got SO many plans for this coming year, in terms of workshops, tutorials, more collaborations and new design etc. I can't wait to dive into it.

And I'm really thrilled with how much progress I made on pattern development over the last few weeks. It was definitely a silver lining of the bad weather. Just being away from my desk gave me such good head-space to focus on creativity and pattern design. Another sneak peek of my stitching is below, plus some shots from the last part of our boating holiday.

Have a great rest of your week everyone!

Julie xx.
