On the Blog... How to finish your hoop

If you are a beginner with embroidery and have finished stitching your first embroidery piece (yay!), but wondering - what now?! Then you are in for a treat with our blog article here on how to finish off your hoop.

In this article I will teach you how to remove any pen markings, and do a simple running stitch to finish off your hoop, so it's ready to hang on the wall and add some extra flare to your home. Happy finishing!

What have our Makers been up to?

We have absolutely loved seeing all of the beautiful versions of our 'Sweet Bouquet' guest pattern shared in the member group.

Here's some feedback our lovely member Lynn said about this pattern: "Making slow but steady progress on Sweet Bouquet. The satin stitch has gotten easier...my stitches are far from perfect but I love it!!!"

Here are some examples of some gorgeous member creations below...

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

How pretty and practical are these cute little embroidered necklaces, made by Katie of @dandelion.doiley.embroidery? We love all of her beautiful and unique pieces she creates, and how everything is so miniature! She must have some seriously good eyesight with all of the little details she includes in her handmade embroidered jewellery. If you'd like to see more of her work, you can visit her instagram page here.

Something helpful...

This is for all of the parents of young kids out there! When I read this post from Essence of Living, it really gave me some perspective. I know many of you would be able to relate when I say that time goes sooo fast when you have children, so this post was a great reminder to cherish every moment you have with them and to be present.

Shop Highlight... Sweet Bouquet

We have seen some beautiful member versions of this pattern so far, we can't wait to see more of them.

'Sweet Bouquet' is our first guest pattern, designed by the incredibly talented Yulia Anderson of @matryoshkadollshop

This is recommended for Confident Makers + and is a perfect opportunity to practice your Satin Stitch.

With Mother's day nearing, what better way of showing them how much you care, than with a bouquet that will last a lifetime?!

We have a pattern kit available, which comes with a printed pattern guide, piece of cotton fabric, all of the thread colours to make the pattern and a wooden display hoop for your finished piece.

Garden To Table...

I had such a cool experience with Harvey at school recently! His school does a programme called 'garden to table' where the kids learn to grow, harvest, prepare, and share great food.

I went along and helped last week, and absolutely loved getting to know his little classmates more and seeing how proud Harvey was to have his mum at school. I'm sure that won't always be the case as he gets older LOL.

Our group made little flatbreads – it was such a simple recipe but was such a hit with the kids! I've attached the recipe here, which you can try if you like. Just note we didn't bother to rest the dough (and it turned out fine) and I actually cooked it with olive oil (the extra crispiness went down a treat).

In my world...

I honestly feel like I was telling you about last week's news about a blink of an eye ago. Don't you think that the weeks fly by so fast!?

We had an epic weekend away with mates, soaking up a little bit more great weather (gotta get it while we can!). For those of you in NZ – I totally recommend Kuaotunu Campground, and they would love to see some more visitors after their slow start to the year! We got there absolutely fine in terms of the road network, and it reminded me that the Coromandel Peninsular is such an incredibly special part of NZ.

Here at Clever Poppy HQ, I am trying soooo hard to get on top of the upcoming patterns! But I'd really like twice as much time in each day…pretty please can someone help make that happen? If you've ever run your own business, you'll know how many hats you need to wear. So while I need to stitch and write patterns solidly (for days!) at the moment, a LOT of my time is spent helping and cheering on our lovely members and customers (by email, Facebook message, Insta DM's, TikTok comment etc), writing emails, improving systems, editing photos, loading shop listings, creating videos…hehe the list can go on! I shudder to think how I could keep on top of things without Matt and Amy.  And hey – this pace is probably why each day, week and month flies by so fast!

On that note, I've got to the point in my day where I can start stitching, woo hoo! Off I go…

Have a wonderful rest of your week everyone

Julie xx.
