On the Blog... Learn the French Braid

If you are looking to expand on your embroidery skills, you might be interested in diving into the world of hair embroidery.

The French Braid is a fun and realistic technique you may have already practiced in everyday life, which you can now channel into your favourite embroidery pieces.

This is such a gorgeous and intricate hairstyle to create for long hair. Before learning this technique, just note you will need to learn the Turkey Stitch, which makes up the strands of hair on the head. You can check out how to make this stitch here.

This technique is so fun and rewarding to learn! So jump over to our blog article here which has a simple to follow, step-by-step guide. Let us know how you go!

What have our Makers been up to?

We just love this beautiful version of our new pattern 'Floral Rainbow Sampler' shared by talented member Jamie, we had to share it with you!

She said: "So much fun stitching this new pattern. Not gonna lie, the Turkey stitch really threw me for a loop at first (pun intended! πŸ˜‰), but once I got into the groove it was ok. And those bullion knots…there's definitely lots of room for improvement, but that's part of the journey, right?

Thanks, Julie, for another lovely pattern and for all of your fantastic guidance and tips!"

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

When I saw this piece by the talented Kathrin Marchenko (@kathrin_marchenko), I knew I had to share her work with you as it is SO incredibly unique!

Her style is inspired by fashion and haute culture, and she stitches all of her pieces onto tulle fabric, often adding different textures such as dried flowers, metallics, beads and sequins.

She also creates large scale 3D embroidery pieces like this eye, which are so beautifully realistic. If you'd like to check out more of her art, you can follow her instagram page here.

Something helpful...

If you love the idea of learning the French Braid, then you might be even more keen to learn that we have a whole course dedicated to Stitching Hairstyles! This is super helpful for Super Confident Makers who are wanting to broaden their skills by learning some new techniques. Plus it's super fun! You can purchase access to the course below.

In my world...

We're all feeling great here, because we've had some amazing sunshine over the weekend! Isn't it amazing how the weather can affect everyone's moods? It feels like Summer has finally arrived and we all have a skip in our step…except we're now into Autumn, funny that.

Here at Clever Poppy HQ, it's been a pretty crazy time as we try to catch up on workload that has built up already this year. Matt and Amy are totally focused on getting ahead with kit supplies and orders, and I can barely see them over the boxes of threads and hoops.

I've been planning out my next couple of months, and nearly had a heart attack when I turned my calendar page over (after planning a busy March), and realised that I only have 8 working days (TOTAL) in April. Say what?! It's because the school hols, Easter and Anzac day all fall within April. So it's going to be all fun and games keeping on top of things. It's times like that where I remember that I LOVE what I do, and helping you all make progress with this beautiful craft. And flexibility with work comes with busy times…and the quieter ones. It's going to be all good!

I've loved seeing examples of our Floral Rainbow Sampler already being shared by our lovely members and customers. And it looks like my Bullion Knot tutorial is a success (as I breathe a sigh of relief!).

Ok I better get back to it. Have a fantastic rest of your week!
Julie xx.
