Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are having a great week - and those who are in school holidays are surviving so far!

In today's email:

  • Woven Rose technique for floral lovers
  • Members' Festive Alphabet creations
  • The dresses that inspired "Soul Sisters"
  • A helpful post for becoming less "hangry"
  • In my world: Winter adventures!

On the Blog... Woven Rose Technique

If you love Modern Embroidery, the Woven Rose is a technique that looks beautiful on any floral piece. I love using this in pretty much all of my floral patterns.

This technique can be used to create a beautiful flower with so much texture. It can be a bit time consuming but it is well worth the effort for that wow factor you get from your finished project.

Learn how to make a Woven Rose in my blog here!

What have our makers been up to?

It seems a lot of our members are starting to get organised for Christmas, because there have been some stunning versions of our Festive Alphabet shared in the group this month! These make such great personalised Christmas gifts for loved ones or even hanging decorations for your tree.

Gendy said: "Have really enjoyed making these beautiful letters, both for the opportunity of focusing on the person as I stitch, and for the learning, speed and texture of them".

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I know a lot of you are enjoying the new July pattern "Soul Sisters"  and I wanted to share the dresses that inspired the look of the sister's outfits. I like to have a theme or colour palette in my mind before I start a pattern (e.g. a piece of art or a nature scene). In the case of my Soul Sisters pattern, it was these beautiful dresses from the Meadowlands collection by Spell! I just loved the floaty, festival vibe, and the quite unusual combination of colours and patterns in the layers. I think the Soul Sisters must be off to a summer festival too...

Something helpful...

Can you relate to being "hangry"? I have been following Mikki Williden for awhile now (if you haven't heard of her she is a NZ nutritionist and lecturer with a wealth of knowledge of all things nutrition, health and hormones) and Matt and I have both recently completed an 8 week course of her "Mondays Matter" nutritional program which was such a game changer for me in terms of resetting my approach to eating and exercise. A post from her popped up on my insta feed and I found it so helpful as she explains the science behind feeling "hangry". You can check it out here!

Shop Spotlight... The Festive Alphabet

This is a great pattern for putting the Woven Rose Technique to practice. This pattern would look great on your Christmas tree as hanging decorations, or as a gift for someone special. This comes in two colourway options (cool or warm) and you can either grab the pattern kit (3x mini hoops, pattern guide & templates, thread and 3x pieces fabric) or the digital pattern if you are sorted for supplies.

In my world...

On the home front, we're into the first week of school holidays. So I'm out of the studio and away on a trip with the kids, spending some quality time with my family. I love this time of year!

I've brought a wish-list of patterns that I want to make progress on over the break. It can be a bit hit and miss in terms of whether I'll have time to craft - I'm sure many of you can relate. But I'm hoping to squeeze some in while the kids run amok! I will update you next week, hopefully with some buzzy bees, a jar of flowers and a bouquet of blooms.

Have a wonderful week, and please just hit reply if you have any of your own inspo to share.

Julie xx.

P.S. Can you spy my new punch needle pattern on the wall? Stay tuned...
