Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are having a great week! Below is our weekly round-up of what's been happening here at Clever Poppy.

In today's email:

  • An easy guide to the Lazy Daisy
  • A Stylish embroidered shoe from a member
  • Beautiful keepsake Baby Blankets
  • My delicious Seed cracker recipe
  • Shop Spotlight: The Night Before Christmas
  • In my world: Back to reality

On the Blog... Learn the Lazy Daisy

The Lazy Daisy is one of my favourite beginner Embroidery stitches. It is a very sweet technique to use on a variety of petals, leaves and flowers. I would say it's a variation of the Chain stitch technique, where you use individual chains to create shapes. It's a great simple and quick stitch for creating petals and leaves for floral patterns and that's why I love it! Check out this blog article to learn this fast and easy stitch for your next floral pattern.

What have our makers been up to?

Sacha shared in the group this super cool floral embroidered shoe by her 15 year old daughter - this was only her first time embroidering, how impressive is that?!
She said: "My 15 year old, in her school holiday boredom, picked up a needle for the first time and tried her hand at the embroidered shoe trend. It looks amazing! Just wondering what's the best way to cover and protect the inside stitches in a shoe?"

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I just love these absolutely beautiful Heirloom Baby Blankets made by Kate, with her business Heritage Blankets. She is based in Australia and her love for floral prints shines with these gorgeous lace edged keepsake blankets.

She is actually a member of the Maker's Academy - It's so wonderful to see another fellow mum embracing her passion and turning it into a business.

You can check out her instagram page here if you want to see more of her beautiful blankets!

Something to snack on...

I have been making these nourishing Seed crackers for the last few years, and would you believe my kids even like them! I have been asked many times for the recipe so I thought I would share it with you as they are incredibly delicious and moreish! You can easily make a whole batch in advance and they keep well in the freezer. Let me know what you think!

Shop Spotlight...The Night Before Christmas

You might remember that last year, my pattern The Night Before Christmas was the cover star of Love Embroidery Mag issue 19. It sure was a pinch me moment.

Well I'm super excited to let you know that we can now share the pattern with you all! This pattern is great for Super Confident Makers, and you can purchase it as a kit in our online store.

The pattern kit comes with the lovely linen fabric, a display hoop and the printed pattern guide.

In my world...

It's back to reality for us this week, after 2 weeks of school holiday fun. As luck would have it, we're onto our next round of colds, so rather than dive back into the school and work routine, it's days spent resting up at home. Again. Ah, I really can't wait for this Winter season here in NZ to end, and I'm sure so many of you can relate!

But hey, one bonus of indoor weather, is more opportunities to stitch! Hehe I really focused on using any chance I could to stitch over the past couple of weeks. I stitched in the evenings once the kids were in bed, during the day if they were occupied, at the swimming pool, on the aeroplane, at the soccer field. You name it! It was such fun, plus I made so much progress on my upcoming patterns and tutorials, which is fantastic for my mindset too.

Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Julie xx.
P.S. Here's a pic of some progress I made at the swimming pool, on samplers to update my 'Embroidering Words Guide'. I'd love to know, where is somewhere interesting that you stitch - that's not at home? Hit reply to let me know!
