Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are enjoying your week so far! Here's what's happening this week at Clever Poppy.

In today's email:

  • On the Blog: Learn the Chain Stitch technique
  • Member's gorgeous floral patterns
  • Beautiful embroidered bookmarks
  • An interesting Netflix series to check out
  • Shop Spotlight: Get Cosy
  • In my world: Holiday haps

On the Blog... A simple guide to Chain Stitch

This is a really fun technique to do, and a versatile stitch to use for shapes or lines with a bit more texture. It can also be used as a 'filling in' technique, using rows of chain stitch to fill shapes. I have used this technique in my patterns to add textural details such as a woven basket, stems of flowers, smoke, and even embroidered words and letters.

If you'd like to learn how to do the Chain Stitch, check out my blog article here which has a simple guide to follow.

What have our makers been up to?

Laura shared with us her versions of our Little Wildflower meadow, Bee Happy, and Bunny Blooms patterns she has finished recently - what a busy bee she has been! Aren't they just beautiful?

She said: "Thanks Julie for your lovely patterns they are such a beautiful style. I am addicted to embroidery."

You should be so proud, Laura!

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I just had to share with you these beautiful hand embroidered letters and bookmarks by Sanita of Moody Green Embroidery. I am loving everything about her work she creates, from the colour palette to the gorgeous detail of the floral designs she comes up with. Aren't the bookmarks just so cute - and practical too?! If you'd like to check out more of her work, you can check out her instagram page here.

Something helpful...

We watched a series recently with the kids that I thought you might find helpful if you're looking for something to watch together. It's a 6 part series recreating the Thai cave rescue story that gripped the world back in 2018. The kids did find it a bit scary in parts, but overall it's an incredible story of resilience and problem solving. I'd be keen to hear your thoughts!

Shop Spotlight... Get Cosy

If you are looking for a new pattern to challenge yourself with, why not try our Get Cosy design? For those in the northern hemisphere, this is the perfect fall inspired pattern that makes you feel like you just want to snuggle up with a warm cup of something and get stitching.

We also have the version "Get Cozy" template available at the end of the pattern guide as an added extra for those in the U.S.

I would recommend this for Super Confident Makers, as this pattern features an array of different embroidery techniques.

We have a pattern kit in our Clever Poppy shop which includes a square of cotton fabric, printed pattern guide, thread bundle and display hoop.

In my world...

I've been having a wonderful time away with the kids for the school hols so far! We been walking up big hills, playing table tennis and visiting plenty of parks. We hit a real cold snap in Wellington, and even found ice in some pot plants outside. That was quite the novelty for our kids!  I've had to squeeze in quite a lot of work too this past week, so luckily the kids have been quite distracted playing with their cousins. But it has definitely been a juggle, as I'm sure many of you can relate to. Such is life, and I feel lucky that Matt and Amy have been holding down the fort with most of the workload at Clever Poppy HQ.

We've got a few days away on the boat now which I'm hoping will be super relaxing. Harvey can spend hours sitting on the back of the boat fishing with Matt (which is amazing, because at home he pretty much never ever plays on his own). And Piper will be her usual self full of imaginative play. So bring on some me time! I've got a few more patterns ready to stitch on the new Kona cotton range. Can't wait to share more on this front.

Ok back to school hols – have a great rest of your week everyone!
Julie xx.
