Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are enjoying your week so far! Here's what's happening this week at Clever Poppy.

In today's email:

  • On the Blog: My tips for stitching onto clothing
  • Member's 'Bee Happy' creation
  • Beautiful and intricate woven house
  • A helpful app to calm your mind
  • Shop Spotlight: Festive Motifs
  • In my world: School holidays are here

On the Blog... A Beginner's Guide for Embroidery onto Clothing

One of the best things about learning hand embroidery is using your skills to stitch onto functional pieces, like clothing and accessories. It is such a great way to upcycle your favourite items, and super rewarding when you get to wear your beautiful creations (and get lots of compliments on them!).

If you have always wanted to embroider onto clothing but have no idea where to start, check out our blog article here, which gives you an easy guide for how to go about this. It also includes a free PDF guide download!

This goes hand in hand with our new Festive Motifs pattern kit at the end of this email, just in time for the lead up to Christmas!

What have our makers been up to?

How gorgeous is this version of our Bee Happy pattern our member Ella embroidered onto her stretchy cotton dress? This is such a great example of how you can add embroidery onto clothing.

She said: "I used the Happy Bee 🐝 pattern to brighten up this dress.  It's the first time I've stitched on such stretchy fabric and really chuffed with how it came out!"

As you should be, Ella!

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

Can we just stop and take a second to appreciate how absolutely beautiful this woven house is by fiber artist Kate Hemm of Hemm Made?

This immediately caught my eye when scrolling the gram for inspo, and as you can tell by the close up below - her work is just sooo incredibly detailed and intricate.

From the details of the curtain ties and window frames, to the flowers and vines over the windows and even the textured element on the front door with a little number 2! I am in awe of how talented she is. If you'd like to check out this piece of art and other work of hers, you can head on over to her instagram page here.

Something helpful...

I have been using the 'Balance' meditation app on a regular basis for a little while now, and I have found even just in the short amount of time I have used it, it has made such a huge difference to my daily mindset. I have relied on it quite a lot over the last couple of weeks while I hosted my latest live workshop, which can be quite nerve-wracking! And it has really helped to calm my nerves and put me in better mindset. If you'd like to give it a go, you can download it for free here . I'd love to hear what you think!

Shop Spotlight... Festive Motifs

Our new pattern 'Festive Motifs' has just launched and I am sooo excited to see what people create with it!

This pattern features eleven cute festive designs, perfect for stitching on Christmas themed accessories and clothing (e.g. stockings or Santa sacks, Christmas jumpers, napkins), or just simply in a beautiful hoop on display... the options are endless!

I would recommend this for Confident Makers +. Our guide above in the blog article about embroidery onto clothing goes hand in hand with this pattern - be sure to check it out!

We of course have a new pattern kit available for you to purchase from our online store. This includes two printable stabiliser sheets, our printed pattern guide, and a thread bundle with all of the colours you need. Happy making!

In my world...

We've finished up our Bee Happy workshop and welcomed some lovely new members to our group – woo hoo!!

I feel like I need a rest now (it's been a busy time), but hey, the school holidays are now in full swing. I don't know about you, but school hols definitely aren't a 'rest' as such for me. But me and the kids have flown off to spend time with my family, so it's a change of scenery and some awesome group parenting. I love it so much and really look forward to doing this throughout the year.

I'm stitching up a storm of course, and can't wait to share some sneak peeks of our Nov pattern with you. Plus beautiful new fabric colours that I'm testing.

Ok I better get back to the chaos of school hols – haha wish me luck! And have a fantastic week everyone

Julie xx.
