Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are enjoying your week so far! Here's what's happening this week at Clever Poppy.

In today's email:

  • On the Blog: Learn the Woven Rose
  • Member's levelled up Bunny Blooms version
  • How to create the perfect muted fall colour palette
  • A helpful podcast discussing wooden hoop frames
  • Shop Spotlight: F*#k the Dishes
  • In my world: Back to reality

On the Blog... Learn the Woven Rose

I just love using this technique in my floral designs, and I know you will too!

This technique can be used to create a beautiful flower with so much texture. It can be a bit time-consuming but it is well worth the effort for the gorgeous end result you will have. You can incorporate this into pretty much any floral pattern, it is such a great technique to have under your belt.

If you have always wanted to learn how to do the Woven Rose technique, I have a blog article with an easy tutorial you can check out here.

What have our makers been up to?

Josie shared in the group her 'levelled up' Bunny Blooms piece - how gorgeous does it look? I just love seeing members spruce up our patterns with added details of their own.

She said: "Finally finished my first embroidery project, and I'm hooked. Now to decide which one to tackle next!"

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I came across this this reel by water colour artist Kristin Van Leuven and thought I would share as it really inspired me. She shows you how you can mix different shades of colours using colour complements in the colour wheel to make a muted fall palette. This blew my mind! You can check out the post here.

Something helpful...

I know a lot of you are keen to learn ways to display your embroidery, in addition to our standard way in the hoop. So I wanted to share this episode from The Stitching & Co. Podcast with Kate from Modern Hoopla, because it's on this topic and is sooo helpful. She discusses some different ways to display your work with beautiful wooden frames. Go and check it out!

Shop Spotlight... F*#k the Dishes

This cheeky pattern is the perfect gift idea or display item for those who don't love doing the dishes (I mean, who does?!), or you could even change the wording to represent any chore you don't enjoy!

You can also practise your woven roses technique learnt with the tutorial above, and a range of other embroidery techniques.

I would recommend this pattern for Confident Makers +.

We have a curated pattern kit available which includes the wooden display hoop, piece of cotton fabric, thread bundle and printed pattern guide.

BTW - I totally know this design isn't everyone's cup of tea, which is why I have the sister pattern 'Progress over Perfection' as well.

In my world...

School hols are over and I am back into the swing of things at Clever Poppy HQ! I've had my head down updating some patterns this week, and it's been really fun to immerse myself in stitching and photography. It always takes longer than I think, because I want to make sure all of the content is so helpful and lovely for you all to experience. So I think the time is worth it!

We had an awesome end to the holidays, boating for a few days with Matt's family on his parent's boat. There is something so relaxing about being out on the water, and the kids really loved it too! Harvey is obsessed with fishing (just like his Dad) and Piper had fun going ashore to beaches and playing on the boat. We feel so lucky that we get to spend some much time away on the boat, and treasure every moment.

Ok I better fly, I have a stack of patterns sitting on my photography table that are demanding my attention. Can't wait to share the updated guides with you soon!

Have a fantastic rest of your week.

Julie xx.
P.S. We have some exciting news later this week about how you can get your hands on these 2 new needle minder designs! Watch this space!
