Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are enjoying your week so far! Here's what's happening this week at Clever Poppy.

In today's email:

  • On the Blog: Learn Straight Stitch
  • Member's 'levelled up' Festive Alphabet version
  • Black Friday sale earlybird waitlist
  • Cute Christmas advent calendar made from cardboard
  • Something yummy to make for your next social gathering
  • Shop Highlight: Christmas Charms
  • In my world: World Cup weekend

On the Blog... Learn Straight Stitch

This simple technique is one I would recommend learning first on your embroidery journey. The Straight stitch is basically one single stitch, which can be used either on its own or with other straight stitches to make a pattern.

For example, in our Christmas Charms pattern featured below, the stitches are used singly to make leaves along a stem. Or you could make them all fan out from a single point to make a star in our Personalised Baubles pattern.

If you are a beginner and would like an easy guide to learning the Straight stitch technique, I have a blog article here you can check out. Happy stitching!

What have our makers been up to?

How beautiful is this 'levelled up' version of the letter 'L' from our Festive Alphabet pattern, our member Kaitlyn has shared?

I just love how she has made it her own, by adding some extra elements to make it extra special.

She said: "I officially feel like a super confident maker! I found I LOVE split stitch (idk why, it's just so satisfying!), fishbone stitch is pretty but not my favorite to work, and my satin stitch and woven roses are improving so much with practice. I have been on an ornament-making kick. I did a leveled up "L" from the festive alphabet, and then Julie's festive motifs inspired me to create some motifs of my own."

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

If you're not already following Kathryn of Cardboard Folk on Instagram, then you are really missing out!

I have been following her page for years and am always sooo inspired by her projects - she does some really amazing creative things with Cardboard. In particular, I wanted to share this cute Christmas advent Calendar she has come up with this year. What a lovely way to get the kids into the festivities!

If you'd like to see some more of what she does, you can check out her Instagram page here

Some Recipe Inspo...

If you are needing something yummy and new to try out in the kitchen, these crispy smashed potatoes from Luke Hines - The Healthy Cook, looked too good not to share! Mmmm.... my mouth is salivating thinking about them already!

Shop Highlight...Christmas Charms

If you haven't started making your Festive décor yet, then this pattern is perfect for the mantlepiece. It isn't too overly detailed, so it won't take too long to make if you are wanting something to finish in time for Christmas.

I would recommend this for Excited Newbies +.

We have two different colour schemes to choose from, a Winter or Summer variation for those in different hemispheres. Our pattern kit for this design includes a piece of cotton fabric, a wooden display hoop, DMC threads in your chosen colourway and a printed pattern guide.

In my world...

The highlight of our weekend was definitely watching the Black Ferns win the World Cup! In case you don't know, they are our women's rugby team here in NZ, and our country has been captivated by their journey in the tournament over the last month or so. And I can see why – they play the most exciting and unpredictable type of rugby you can imagine, and all seem to be having so much fun while they do it! It was really cool to see a women's sport packing out stadiums, and how much everyone got behind them.

This week we're busy gearing up for our biggest Black Friday sale ever – so be sure to jump on the waiting list if you want to hear about it first (more on that in the email above). And I've realised that there are only 5 Mondays left before Christmas…that sure puts my workload into perspective! I better get back to it haha.

Have a great week everyone!

Julie xx.
P.S. I've been super organised this month and the Dec pattern is ready to go. Here's a sneak peek…I can't wait to share it soon!
