On the Blog...learn Turkey Stitch

Turkey Stitch (also known as Turkey Work) is a really cool way to add 3-dimensional texture to your embroidery creations. It's basically a series of thread loops or tails, that are secured into place with little stitches.

This technique can create really cool raised embroidery effects! For example, you'll often see Turkey Stitch with a 'snipped' effect, which is made by snipping all the tails quite short and fluffing them up to create a densely packed area of texture.

Or you may see Turkey Stitch used to create embroidered hairstyles, with longer tails of thread. In fact, this is one of the techniques that I love to use for creating heads of long hair.

To learn this technique, jump on over to our blog for a step by step breakdown. It's challenging to learn, but well worth the effort!

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

How gorgeous is this pattern 'Between the Rolling Hills' created by embroidery artist Manon, of @threadingtheseasons? I just love the chunky texture of the stitching that makes the design 'pop' off the fabric (how cute are the little sheep?!). Manon's style of embroidery is all about beautiful warm toned colour palettes, which totally give off cosy vibes, making you want to snuggle up with a warm cuppa and do some stitching yourself! If you'd like to see more of her art, you can check out her instagram page here.

Something delicious to try...

Amy and I were drooling over these Crispy Pumpkin Nuggets and so just had to share them with you. Amy made them during the weekend and she can confirm they are little morsels of deliciousness! Amazing as a snack, dipped in aioli - or you could even have them as a side dish with your main meal. You can find the recipe here. Give these a go and let us know what you think!

In my world...

Hello from my studio...woop woop! After making the most of our last (surprise) week with the kids, they headed off to school on Tues. Which means I'm full time in the studio again, with Matt and Amy. The first time we're all here since before Christmas! I have absolutely loved our summer hols (well not the weather so much) and hanging out with the kids, but it sure feels good to be back into it work-wise!

My main focus this week is finalising our next monthly pattern. Normally I work much further in advance…but this month I'll have the deadline breathing down my neck. No pressure right?! I'll share a peek below – this pattern is all about sampling the various flower techniques I have taught so far. With a new technique thrown into the mix…I wonder what it could be?

Ok have a wonderful rest of your week everyone!

Julie xx.
