| | Learn how to transfer your pattern | | If you've been searching for inspiration to get started in modern embroidery then here is your sign! This blog covers my favourite method for transferring embroidery patterns onto fabric - using a mobile phone flashlight or direct light source. This method is great for light-coloured fabrics which you can see through to trace. Then once you've transferred your pattern on, you can get to the fun part - stitching! | | What have our makers been up to? | | Oh my gosh, how special are these bridesmaid invitations that Heidi has stitched up for her daughter to gift to her friends. π She says: "I've been working hard on these over the past few weeks. My daughter is gifting them to ask her friends to be her bridesmaids in her upcoming wedding. They match her wildflower wedding theme just perfectly. I'm so pleased with how they turned out!" We hope Heidi is so proud of herself. They look incredible, and I'm sure her daughter and bridesmaids are going to be so stoked. π | | What's inspiring me on the creative front... | | What could be better than flowers? Giant flowers, of course! I am blown away by these giant flowers by Alina Zadorozhna of @giantflowers_usa. This artist creates delightful daisies and poppies out of crepe paper and beautiful butterflies out of organza. Check out her insta and youtube pages for tutorials on how to make some of these lovely blooms. Imagine giving a giant bouquet of these flowers to your Valentine! | | Make these adorable egg carton bowls! | | - Soak two egg cartons in water for a few hours.
- Blend the cartons.
- Squeeze out the water with your hands.
- Add one cup of flour and a sprinkle of salt.
- Knead this mixture until it forms a dough-like consistency.
Tip: if you notice that your clay is too dry, you can try adding in small amounts of water, and if your clay is too runny add a little bit more flour. - Line some bowls with we compostable cling wrap. As the clay dries, it will shrink a little bit, and then you can remove it from your bowl.
- Optional: When the bowls are completely dry, add a coat of white paint.
- When the paint is dry, add one coat of mod podge to the outside of the bowl and add the top layer of paper from a decorative napkin. Then add a final coat of mod podge.
These bowls would be so much fun to make by yourself or as a project with your kids! Watch the full video here. | | It's been an eventful week on the home front, as Matt and Harvey sailed away on their around New Zealand adventure! They are doing an epic trip with Matt's dad and brother, exploring the coastline over the next six weeks or so. First, they are heading to a remote area of NZ called Fiordland, which has an incredible landscape of deep fiords and mountains. And lots of sea life to explore! The boys have Starlink on the boat which is an absolute game changer and means Matt can continue doing his thing work-wise while they're gone. Piper and I will hold down the fort at home and have some awesome quality time of our own. Plus, we hope to join them at some point!
This week is a busy one for me, creating video content and also putting together the pattern guide for the Glasshouse. Here's a reminder of what this stunning pattern looks like! Question… should I also create a mini version that would suit beginners? Let me know!
