St. Louis!

We went to St. Louis and Nauvoo for Memorial Day weekend. Ben was the most excited kid I have ever seen. I couldn't say the word airplane until we were two seconds from walking out the door. He couldn't wait to ride an airplane and fly in the sky. Ben is an extremely active 2 year old and I was dreading the thought of a 3 hour flight with him confined in and airplane. So we bought a special Lightning McQueen bag and filled it with some new toys, coloring books, and treats (hallelujah for the dollar store!) for our in flight entertainment. He packed that thing all over out house in anticipation of the airplane ride. There was a bonus surprise when we parked our car. We got to ride in a bus to the terminal. Ben was thrilled, but a little impatient with all the stops we had to make. Can't blame him. I was getting sick of it. When we got to the security checkpoint Ben had to take off his shoes. Who knew that was cause for a complete and total meltdown? Kicking, crying, screaming fit all the way through security. He is attached to his shoes. It was an ordeal. On the way home I told him his shoes were going through the car wash. Then he thought it was the coolest thing ever. He kept showing me how clean his shoes were. Ben wanted to ride in all of the airplanes. He kept pointing out the windows and saying, "Wide dat one, PWEESE!!!" Waiting your turn is really hard when you are two.We rode the metro train to our hotel in St. Louis. Ben was in heaven. He loves trains. The stops were spaced out far enough that it wasn't too frustrating for him. We stayed in the coolest hotel in St. Louis. It was at Union Station, where all the trains used to come into St. Louis. It was gorgeous. It looked like a castle on the outside and a palace on the inside. So cool.We went to the St. Louis arch while we were there. It was crazy! We rode all the way to the top in in these pods that felt like something from a sci-fi movie. They were crazy small. Five people mashed in through the doors that were only four feet tall and maybe three feet wide. I was really feeling bad for Grandpa Wayne. Once we got to the top we could look out the little tiny windows. I had to detach my brain from what I was actually doing, otherwise I am sure I couldn't have done it. The windows are tiny and you are 630 feet in the air and you have to lay on the "window sill" to see out. When you stop to think that you are essentially dangling 630 feet in the air will only a few feet of reinforced steel holding you and the other 100+ tourists up it is a little scary. But the view was spectacular!
I swear it pains this child to look at the camera!See that door behind my boys with the nubmer 4 on it? That was where we entered the space pods to go to the top!If you look really close you can see little shapes basking in the shadow of the arch!

Next, we rode on a Mississippi river boat. It was the coolest boat ever. So happy. The major bonus was that they had hot dogs! (I am obsessed with hot dogs lately.)
I think most grand kids have their grandmothers wrapped around their chubby fingers. But Benjamin really really has Grandma Gwenya's number. He doesn't even ask me for things if she is around. He just goes straight to the source. "Ma-ma pweese" is all it takes.
Mmmmmm. Hot dogs. Am I disgusting? No just pregnant.
How amazingly awful are these shorts? Come on, really? Wow. Definitely worth a paparazzi shot.

These last three pics are my favorite. Thank you thank you Daddy for taking them! I love them. The only way I could get Ben to smile was to tell him I was going to give him kisses, and he would scream, "No kisses!!" And then what would I do? Smother him with kisses. Such a great moment. Love that little boy!

Halo

I wholeheartedly agree with this song, up to the end where she turns into a traitor and becomes a junkie herself. Scott and I were laughing so so hard when we watched. As per Scott's request I am posting it hear for all to enjoy!

Chef Holmes is Back!!

Jeremy came to town to cook for us again. Yeah! We couldn't cook anything until we went shopping! Nothing but the best would do for us. We went all over town to find the best meats, cheeses, produce and my favorite ingredient, chocolate.

Didn't Ben make a lovely choice for lunch? Cheetos and Coke. Wow.

Time to get cookin!

This is the beginnings of the flourless chocolate cake! This stuff was liquid heaven. MMmmmmm.

Those of you who know my mother know that she eats like a bird and rarely eats sweets. Well as soon as Jeremy had the zabaglione my mom had a serving spoon to "taste test." She ended up having like 10 large spoonfuls! That is how delicious this stuff was.

The head chef hard at work.

The dynamic duo.

The master chef: Jeremy Jack Holmes.

The apprentice: Gwen Cannon.

The one who started it all: Grandma Myrna Richens.
Jeremy had special chef whites made for my grandma and mom just for this special occasion. I think it is safe to say they were flattered and so excited to show them off.

Let's Eat!

This is what happens when you try to take a photo of your dessert while Ben is sitting on your lap.

My grandpa had to sit under the intercom so that he could listen to the Jazz game.

Another highly successful dinner! Come back soon Jeremy!

baby bruderer is a . . .

Wow. Another boy!! Believe it or not I am excited. It has taken a little bit of mental adjusting ( I was sure it was a girl this time!) but I am thrilled for Ben to have a little buddy to wrestle with! So far this boy is much quieter than his older brother. He doesn't move around too much and it is not very often. At this point I was feeling Ben move all day long inside me, quite vigorously. This one seems to be very shy. He did not want to have an ultrasound. He kept hiding from us or turning the other way. The first thing Ben did was roll over and expose his man parts! I will try everything to get this one to move around more, pushing on him, drinking orange and laying very still, etc. But no dice. He moves on his own terms. The other day I was getting worried because I hadn't felt much movement lately. I tried not to panic (I am not good at that). But as soon as I put Ben on my lap and we started talking I swear the baby started jumping around inside me. Sounds like he can't wait to meet big brother Ben!

i know i am pregnant when . . .

1. i am freezing all of the time.
2. i wake up at least twice a night to pee.
3. i suddenly have an affinity for plain old yellow mustard and pickles (both of which i loathe).
4. i cry when my husband offers to go to the grocery store for me and take ben with him.
5. all i can think about is cleaning out my closets, getting the baby room ready, and re-doing ben's room, cleaning out the garage, making DI runs, and looking at furniture (nesting much?).
6. all i want to eat is gummy bears, chocolate, and panda express.
7. my eyebrows are growing uncontrollably. seriously. anyone have a weed whacker?
8. my love handles are back and i don't look pregnant, just pretty dang chubby.
9. i want to go to bed at 8:30 pm with ben and really really don't want to wake up with him at 7:30 am.
10. i am nuts not knowing the gender of my little peanut. i am trying not to run to the nearest fetal studio or begging my OB to just take a peek for me before my big ultrasound appt.
11. nothing fits and it is back into the fat clothes. last time i was pregnant i couldn't wait to start showing. this time i know how fat i am going to get and to be honest it is a bit depressing.
12. i am really really excited for this new baby. which scares me. shouldn't i be terrified? because honestly i don't know how i am going to do it. but truthfully i can't wait to meet this new little one.

BIG news!!

Can you believe it? Our family is growing! We are expecting another bundle of joy (and energy) September 25, 2010. I am so excited, which surprises me. I didn't know if I would ever be brave enough to have another one after Ben. He has been wonderfully hard. But I can't wait. It feels right, which shocks me. I thought I would have constant, "What am I doing?" moments. Don't get me wrong those moments do come. Usually it is when Ben is in the middle of a full scale temper tantrum or having a day when he literally has to be carried everywhere. But this new baby will be good for all of us. The hardest part right now is not knowing if it is a boy or a girl. I am really feeling like it is a girl, but who knows?!
