Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are enjoying your week so far! Here's what's happening this week at Clever Poppy.

In today's email:

  • Essential supplies needed for Modern Embroidery
  • unique abstract embroidery artist I had to share
  • A simple hack for switching your mindset
  • Pot Plant Shelfie member creation
  • Shop Spotlight: The Gardening Bee
  • In my world: Quality time with family

On the Blog...What Essential Supplies do you need to get started with Modern Embroidery?

Here is some good advice from me... If you're using the right supplies, learning modern embroidery will be so much more enjoyable!

Why? The wrong embroidery supplies will make it so much harder to get the hang of embroidery techniques and stitches, and ultimately create beautiful patterns (which I know you're aiming for!).

If you want to learn about what essential supplies you need to get you started, check out my blog article on this exact subject here, for some helpful tips.

What have our makers been up to?

How stunning is this version of our Pot Plant Shelfie pattern shared by our member Sam?

She said: "So happy to have this finished I've been wanting to do this pattern from the start. The linen was a little trickier but all and all I'm happy. I think this is the first hoop that I'm a bit proud of. #progressoverperfection."

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I just had to share with you this absolutely beautiful work by Embroidery Artist Ruth Hughes from Wild Floss. I just adore how she uses different mediums and textures to create these unique, abstract pieces.

If you'd like to see more of her work, you can check out her instagram page here.

This makes me excited about using our beautiful merino wool roving in future embroidery patterns. I'd of course be doing it in my own unique style, which might be quite different to this! Would you be interested in some new embroidery patterns using wool roving? Hit reply and let me know!

Something helpful...

Amy shared this video with me recently which she found really helpful and I thought I would share it with you. If you haven't heard of it already, it's called the '5 second rule' by Mel Robbins. It's a mindset hack to help with anxiety, or even procrastination. Even just watching a snippet of it, I found it really resonated with me - especially the part about using fear as excitement. You can check out her Youtube video here.

Shop Spotlight... The Gardening Bee

I often get comments from people saying that this pattern is what made them join our membership!

This is such a gorgeous pattern, perfect as a gift for a gardening lover you know, or displayed on your wall at home.

I would recommend this pattern for our Super Confident Makers out there, it is also the perfect pattern to practice the Chain Stitch technique.

You can grab the pattern kit from our shop, which includes the printed pattern guide, piece of cotton fabric, display hoop and thread bundle with all of the colours you need.

I have also linked in some embroidery essential supplies below to get you started as well!

In my world...

We've been lucky to have visits from two sets of the kids' grandparents over the last week or so. I feel like as the kids get older, time with their grandies becomes more and more precious. Before they become teenagers too cool for school right?! I'm always amazed at how much more time the grandparents seem to have to actually sit and spend quality time with the kids – compared to me! While I'm racing around doing a million things, they can actually sit with them and read a book or play a game. I reckon that is so special. We even found a book which was mine as a kid (and my step-mum's before that) which Piper loved – 'Mary Poppins, a Jolly Holiday'!

In other news it's Harvey's 8th birthday next week and he has asked me to make him a birthday cake. Gulp. It's not really my thing, but I'm going to take it on! So hit reply and let me know if you have a great cake recipe or decoration idea for a mum that is pretty busy and not a master chef. He loves fishing if that helps…

Have a wonderful week!

Julie xx.
P.S. I am SO excited to reveal our new pattern for next month! *Hint* it has a slight festive theme - just in time for Christmas. Stay tuned for our release on the 1st of September...
