Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are enjoying your week so far! Here's what's happening this week at Clever Poppy.

In today's email:

  • A Beginner's Guide to Chain Stitch
  • Member's creation using 'The Festive Alphabet'
  • Amazing Weaving creations that inspire me
  • A helpful podcast worth listening to
  • Shop Spotlight: Winter Wonderland
  • In my world: All hands on deck

On the Blog... Chain Stitch Embroidery Technique

The Chain Stitch a really fun and versatile technique to use for shapes or lines with a bit more texture. You can also use rows of chains to fill in a shape. I find this a bit more forgiving than the more usual fillers such as Satin Stitch.

With this stitch, you're making a chain of stitches that form a line, and once you get the hang of it, it's quite methodical to do.

I have used this stitch in a lot of my embroidery patterns to add textural details such as a woven basket, smoke and even embroidered words and letters. If you would like to learn how to do this stitch, check out my blog article here for an easy guide.

What have our makers been up to?

I just love this creation shared by Lynden and how she has used our 'Festive Alphabet' pattern to make the word 'Mom'.
She said: "Another one down!! I'm so enjoying all of this, I love the time that I actually make for myself now to do them. Especially when it is finished it gives me so much satisfaction!! Thanks Julie ๐Ÿ’•".

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I have been following Jen Duffin for awhile now, and wanted to share her absolutely incredible Woven art with you as it has always inspired me! She is a Fibre Artist based in Montreal, Canada and Nova Mercury Design is her business. I just love how vibrant, textured, and creative her work is! The round woven piece featured below is one of my favourite creations of hers, isn't it gorgeous? If you would like to see more of her incredible Woven art, you can check out her instagram page here.

Something helpful...

I've recently listened to this podcast by Tracy Harris and I found it really helpful, so I wanted to share it with you too. It touches on how to manage some of the biggest stressors faced by Mums in business. It also talks about what is meant by "good enough" parenting ( I need to delve more into this but the quick summary Dr Sasha gave really spoke to me). I would love to hear what you think!

Shop Spotlight... Winter Wonderland

Lots of members have been sharing Winter Wonderland lately - I think it must be because people want to get ahead this year and make it in the lead up to Christmas, or the chilly weather on this side of the world has inspired them to make it!

This pattern is for the Super Confident makers out there who are looking to put their skills learnt into practise!

This detailed winter scene has so many different techniques used in the pattern, including the Chain Stitch, Satin Stitch, French Knots, and many more.

Our pattern kit includes the pattern Guide, display hoop, thread bundle, square of linen fabric (available in Cloud Blue or Bone colourways) and is available to purchase in the shop. Don't forget to use your discount code for pattern kits.

In my world...

Things have been super busy here at Clever Poppy HQ, what with running another beginner workshop and making some really cool updates to the membership. Now that we have Amy helping to run our online store and workshops, it means 3 pairs of hands on deck - and it's amazing how much more we can achieve in a day! In terms of patterns, I'm focused on finalising our next live workshop pattern, and a festive pattern which is all about making your own personalised Christmas baubles. How fun!

This term we've swapped out the kids activities for something new – basketball and hip hop dancing. It's a bit of a juggle, but the days are getting a bit longer, so we've all got a bit of a skip in our step! To see a little snapshot of a day in my life, check out this reel here.

Have a wonderful rest of your week.

Julie xx.
P.S. I may have mentioned that I've been preparing a pattern for my next LIVE workshop, which is scheduled for later in Sep. Here's a sneak peak of the pattern, complete with cute little bees. We will share more details about dates and how to enrol closer to the time. But lets just say I'm super excited already!
