Hey, it's Julie here,

I hope you are enjoying your week so far! Here's what's happening this week at Clever Poppy.

In today's email:

  • Fishbone Stitch for Beginners
  • Member's version of 'Little Wildflower Meadow'
  • Beautiful Wedding bouquets replicated into Embroidered art
  • Shop Spotlight: Hanging Planter
  • In my world: The Amazing Race

On the Blog... Fishbone Stitch for Beginners

Fishbone Stitch is a lovely way to fill in areas of fabric, especially for leaves or petals. You are basically splitting the shape down the middle with a spine, then doing alternative stitches in a diagonal effect.

I use this technique in nearly all of my patterns, as I just love stitching anything that's floral, leafy or botanical. I just love how lovely petals and leaves look using the Fishbone Stitch!

If you would like to learn this stitch, check out my blog article here

What have our makers been up to?

How beautiful is this version of our pattern 'A Little Wildflower Meadow' our member Katrina shared, which she has decided to use in place of a birthday card?

What a great example of how to personalise your gift into something special for your loved one.

She said: "Excited Newbie pattern 1 complete! I'm going to make it into my sister in law's birthday card❤️"

What's inspiring me on the creative front...

I came across Samantha Stitches on instagram and wanted to share with you her beautiful work. She is a trained florist, heritage researcher and embroidery enthusiast who replicates wedding bouquets into embroidered art for people to purchase. What a special way to have a piece of your wedding day displayed on your wall at home!

I just love seeing other talented people fulfilling their love of embroidery and sharing it with others.

If you would like to see more of her work, check out her instagram page here.

Shop Spotlight... Hanging Planter

This pattern looks gives you the perfect chance to practise your Fishbone Stitch Technique, as it spills out of this cool hanging pot plant. This pattern is full of style, and would look beautiful displayed on your wall at home or as a gift to someone special.

I would recommend this pattern for our Confident Makers out there.

The final part of the pattern is making the rope hanger, which does take a bit of concentration but is such a great skill to have under your belt for future projects!

You can grab the pattern kit from our shop which includes the printed Pattern Guide, Threads, piece of Cotton fabric and Display Hoop.

In my world...

We had a fun-filled weekend hosting an inaugural event with a bunch of our mates, called the Amazing Race! We led them on a car rally style trip out to a mystery location, with heaps of challenges and quizzes along the way. It took a lot of planning, but it all went off without a hitch! It made me realise how much we could draw on our organisational skills from running Clever Poppy – for example I set up a 'race players' private fb group and we shared videos and pics of our progress throughout the day. It made me laugh commenting on all of their progress – just like I do with our members group! It was an epic day, but unlike our gatherings of the past, I think I was in bed before 10pm…I thought that was a bit lame, until Piper woke me up at 5.05am! Ha ha how times change.

This week my main focus will be on squaring away next month's pattern, and updating my guide to embroidering words. I hope both of these are going to be amazing resources that you can draw on time and again on your embroidery journey.

Have a wonderful rest of your week!

Julie xx.
P.S. I am busily working away behind the scenes on the upcoming September pattern, which is all about creating personalised decorations for Christmas! I can't wait to share it with you soon, and in the meantime here is a sneak peek.
