| | On the Blog... A Guide to Finishing your Hoop with a Fabric Backing | | If you are looking for another way to finish your finished piece, then adding a fabric back is a great option! Not only does it make your hoop look neat and tidy (making it perfect for gifting or selling), but it also helps your piece to sit flush against the wall when hanging on display. I have put together a simple guide in my blog article here, where you can learn how to back your finished hoop using felt. Give it a try and let us know how you go! | | What have our Makers been up to? | | When we saw this incredible version of our 'Soul Sisters' pattern shared in the group by member Jessica, we were absolutely blown away. It is by far one of the most beautiful pieces we have ever seen! The reason behind why she made it and what it represents was super inspiring and beautiful, we just had to share it with you. She said: "After struggles with hair color, ripping my fabric with a runaway seam-ripper, and removing stains caused by the cheap frame 🫣😅 I'm finally finished! It's a representation of my good friend and her little girl… the little star is an ode to her longtime boyfriend/daughter's father, whom they sadly lost to cancer just a couple months ago. I hope she loves it 💕" | | 'She the Bee' Pattern kit... | | On the 1st June we announced that a whole new pattern library had been dropped in our membership, featuring 12 of my favourite patterns by the lovely Krista of 'She the Bee' ( @she_the_bee). We asked our members to vote for their favourite pattern, so that we can make it available as a pattern kit. The winner was this beautiful 'Hedgehog' design! So if you'd like to get your hands on this pattern too, stay tuned for news about when this kit hits our online shelves... | | What's inspiring me on the creative front... | | When I stumbled across this beautiful handmade journal by the talented Ruth of @journallyours on Instagram, it caught my eye as it's not often you see embroidery being used in this way. Ruth creates these intricately detailed journals from scratch, and uses techniques like raised embroidery to make her designs stand out. All of her designs are inspired by nature and each journal is unique, from its cover to all the little detailed sections on the inside. If you'd like to see her other creations, you can check out her Insta profile here. | | I had to crack up at this reel made by actress-comedian Maddy MacRae (@maddy_mcrae _) as it's just sooo relatable! If you are anything like me and past the days of partying into all hours of the night, you will agree too. She is hilarious - I highly recommend you to go and check her page out here if you are in need of a laugh! | | I've spent the last few days shooting next month's pattern. It's quite a big job which takes me a decent chunk of time – working through the process step by step, capturing each stage with images, and endeavoring to explain it all as clearly as possible in the wording. But it's so worth it, knowing that this pattern will be an awesome resource that will be made time and again over the coming years. I really love this part of my job! A side bonus, is that in order to prevent distractions from my inbox and messenger, I usually put on some kind of tv series or movie, which I watch as I stitch along. Maybe it's a convenient excuse to watch my fav show, but hey, I swear it helps keep me on track! This time I've polished off the final season of 'Succession'. And my goodness, was that a good watch! If you haven't seen or heard of it, it's about an American family that is incredibly rich and powerful (in the global media industry), and they are also extremely dysfunctional. The way they deal with money can be quite gob-smacking (they treat a million dollars like I would treat 100 dollars, eeek!). And it's interesting to see how money certainly doesn't bring them happiness – rather the opposite. I don't know exactly what it is about the show, but it's very witty, intriguing and surprising, and I just kept coming back for more! So hey, there's a heads up if you're looking for a new show to dive into. Ok I better dive back into making this pattern guide. Can't wait to share all about it on the 1st July!
